Stone spheres probably became so popular after people had realized at last that our Earth is also a sphere. Some people use spheres for decoration, some buy them for collection, others try to find in them healing properties or magic power... And it's so easy to believe that there is a magic in stone spheres, because they often look like distant planets - with oceans and continents, covered with clouds.
